Materials Needed
- Up to 680 yards Super Fine – 1 weight yarn. I used Loops and Threads Woolike Simili-Laine in Black.
- Size E4/3.5mm crochet hook
- Yarn Needle for sewing
- Scissors
- Measuring Tape for Gauge and Sewing

- Ch – Chain
- HDC – Half Double Crochet
- TR – TrebleCrochet
- SC – Single Crochet
- Sl St – Slip Stitch

Gauge and Swatch
One Repeat (rows 1-8) will measure 2.5 inches tall
12 HDC across will measure 2”
Star Flower Shrug Crochet Pattern Written Instructions
Sizes XS/S, (M/L, XL/2X)
Chain 131 (151, 171)
Row 1: Ch1, turn, HDC in each stitch across [131 (151, 171)
Row 2: Ch 6, turn. TR in 1st Stitch. *Ch 3, SK 4 stitches, SC into 5th stitch. Ch 3, SK 4 stitches, (TR, Ch5, TR) into 5th stitch.* Repeat * * across. (TR, Ch2, TR) in last stitch
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. SC in 1st Stitch. *Ch 3, (TR, Ch5, TR) into SC from previous row, Ch 3, SC into Ch 5 space from previous row* Across. SC into 4th ch (from bottom) of turning chain.
Row 4: Ch 6, turn. TR in 1st Stitch. *Ch 3, SC into Ch 5 space from previous row. Ch 3, (TR, Ch5 TR) into SC from previous row.* Repeat * * across. (TR, Ch2, TR) in last stitch
Rows 5&6: – Repeat Rows 3 and 4.
Row 7: Ch 1 turn, *SC in first stitch, Ch2, (TR, Ch 3, TR) into SC from previous row, Ch 2, SC into Ch 5 space from previous row.* Repeat * * Across. SC into 4th ch (from bottom) of turning chain.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn. HDC into each stitch across (you can work around the chain if it is easier) [131 (151, 171)
Repeat Rows 1-8 four more times for (XS/S) five more times for (M/L) and six more times for (XL/2XL) for a total of (5, 6 and 7) stripes, respectively.
Fasten Off, Weave in ends.
Star Flower Shrug Assembly
With right side up, fold fabric in half lengthwise. Sew 4.5” in from the edge on each side. Whipstitch is recommended to avoid bunching.
Turn right side out

Sleeves
Row 1: Attach yarn to sleeve edge into a HDC section with a slip stitch. Ch 1. HDC into each stitch, using the following counts. HDC (4) into each TC/Ch 4 Row. HDC (1) into each SC Row. HDC (3) into every (2) Rows of HDC. Sl St into 1st HDC to close round.
Row 2: Ch 1, HDC into each stitch around. Sl St to 1st stitch to close round.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Repeat for other sleeve.
Collar/Body Edging
Round 1: Attach yarn with slip stitch, a minimum of 4” away from the seam. Ch 1, HDC in each stitch around. Sl St to 1st stitch to close round.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Modifications for Different Sizes
Increasing or Decreasing Width Dimensions (Sleeve to Sleeve)
The Star Flower Shrug pattern is worked in multiples of 10+1. To increase or decrease the width of the shrug, add or subtract 10 stitches until you get to the width you need.
Increasing or Decreasing Length Dimensions (Top to Bottom)
To increase the length of the Star Flower Shrug, add or subtract sections of rows 1-8, until you get the length you need.
